Mrs McMurray's at the Hill Head ~ hand printed lithograph Irish linenWhen we were children we used to visit an elderly lady who lived on a small farm among the rolling hills of County Down. She was one of several McMurrays in the area and to distinguish her from the others we always referred to her as "Mrs McMurray at the Hill Head." This image shows the winding lane up to her cottage and the Mourne Mountains in the distance. I made this entirely myself from beginning to end, from the initial idea, through painting

Winter Farm was inspired by a place I see on a walk near my home here in County Down

At first glance you might expect the fields look bleak at this time of year but I find there is so much inspitation in the details of the landscape and the muted colours

from the initial idea
